The Faces of BRDG
BRDG eNews launches this new feature as a brief (3 Q&As) and hopefully fun way for you to experience the many ways BRDG impacts lives for the better! Meet BRDG student alum Mahmoud Abdullah.
1. How would you describe your experience with BRDG to your best friend?
BRDG was an invitation for me to become a part of a greater network of professionals and volunteers who decided to spend their time and effort away from their own careers to help start mine. Everyone I've met through BRDG was ready to help. There was always at least one coach and/or committee member that had applicable advice to the issues and hurdles I'm facing. Each workshop introduced me to new ways of thinking and delivered valuable lessons in a digestible format. I definitely didn't regret joining the BRDG program.
2. What are the most important skills, life lessons, and insights you believe BRDG provided you that you would not have gained any other way?
Honestly, the most important thing BRDG has done was choose me. Being accepted into the program gave me hope that I was capable of convincing others I was a valuable candidate. The opportunities to build my communication skills with regular events and conferences instilled further confidence and experience.
3. What are your plans for the future?
To develop my research skills and delve deeper into technical knowledge. A major component to my future growth is applying innovation to solve real-world problems. Currently I am participating in the BRDG Innovation Challenge where my team is using engineering to tackle a sustainability problem.
Mahmoud bonus insight: I really enjoy mountain terrain and the view of gorgeous
valleys.
